Hello!
Just wanted to reach out and remind everyone that this Saturday, October 11 , is October Big Day a global celebration of birds and birding organized by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. Birders around the world will be heading out to see how many species they can find in a single day, contributing their sightings to eBird to help track migration and bird populations worldwide. Whether you join a local walk at the Albany Pine Bush or explore your own favorite spot, every checklist counts! Get outside, enjoy the fall migration, and be part of this worldwide birding event.
As for local happenings this weekend, Albany Pine Bush will be hosting a bird banding demonstration on Saturday from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. A great chance to see birds up close and learn about banding research in action.
On the outreach side, we’ve got two farmers markets this weekend:
*
Saturday: Niskayuna Farmers Market, 8 a.m.–12 p.m. — we have enough coverage to make it happen, but a few extra smiles or friendly faces would be most helpful for this one.
*
Sunday: Schenectady Green Market — this one has a bit better coverage, but we could still use one or two more volunteers. More helping hands (and smiles) are always welcome and appreciated.
Looks like a beautiful weekend ahead perfect for birding, visiting a market, or both! While there’s no official field trip on the HMBC calendar this weekend, hopefully this gives you a few fun ways to stay involved and enjoy the outdoors.
