A LeConte's Sparrow was found on Monday in New Hampshire. The bird is located on the Goss Farm, an area open to the general public. Yesterday, the bird was found on the far right edge of the property, in a small tree next to a fence, where a white house with a flagpole sits. The sparrow was found by two other birders when I arrived. It sat on a branch, offering great views, for roughly twenty minutes.
Goss Farm is right off 1A in Rye, New Hampshire. It has been known as an excellent site for sparrows in the spring and fall. During my visit, I found a large number of sparrows, including field, vesper, chipping, Savanah, house, and song sparrows. I was fairly sure I also spotted a Lincoln's sparrow. A large flock of bluebirds darted among the dead trees lining the marsh.
The other birders also spotted a yellow-billed cuckoo. This is a small, compacted area seeming to hold a large number of birds. My eBird checklist is S277801661 and includes a photo of the LeConte's.
