Date: 10/7/25 2:18 pm From: Tom Fiore <tomfi2...> Subject: [nysbirds-l] Manhattan, NYC- to Tuesday, 10/7 - V. Rail, Y.-br. Chat, Red-headed WP, 17+ Warbler spp.
Manhattan, N.Y.City - into Tuesday, October 7th -
At Central Park in Manhattan, at least 16 species of migratory American-hemisphere warblers were still being found thru the park on Monday, Oct. 6th alone, with large numbers of observers and photographers. Many of these warbler species were also showing in multiple locations spread across Manhattan, some in smaller greenspaces and gardens as well as various public parks.
Orange-crowned Warbler sightings continued as did Red-headed Woodpecker observations for this week, with that warbler species again seen by many thru Tuesday at Central Park.
A White-eyed Vireo was also continuing in the Central Park Ramble thru Monday, and a total of at least 80 species of native and wild birds were found for the park on Monday alone, thanks to keen, quiet, patient observers for all areas of the park from early to very late hours. Killdeer were noted from the n. end of Central Park in the small hours of morning on Tuesday, 10-7.
At Number Three Bryant Park, a small plaza a short way west of the actual Bryant Park in mid-Manhattan, a Virginia Rail and a Yellow-breasted Chat were ongoing thru Tuesday, with many observers every day for these 2 individual birds.
Common Nighthawk flights continued past the weekend in Manhattan, just slightly-late although it is not unusual that some may still be passing into the first half of October in this area. Inwood Hill Park and environs remained a good site for observations of these on the fall passage.
Good birding,
Tom Fiore
