For anyone not following eBird Alerts, the following Warblers continued
at Carmel Valley Community Park this afternoon:
The Cape May Warbler found by David Trissel and ID'd by Max on 9/29 is
still there. This afternoon it was in a tipu behind the backstop in the
northeast corner of the upper park area. I was there most of the
afternoon and never saw it anywhere else. I haven't checked other recent
eBird reports to see if others have seen it in the last few days in its
previous locations of the tipu by the puddles and the tipu by the
northwest corner stairs.
The Northern Parula, not sure who was the first person to spot it
yesterday, was all over the place in the upper section of the park this
afternoon. C. Jackson pointed it out to me when I arrived and reached
the top of the northwest stairs. At that point it was moving around in
most of the trees on the other side of the north chain link fence. We
lost it and it was later found in the same tipu as the Cape May behind
the backstop in the northeast corner. A bit later some of us found it
again in the small tipu that is next to the large tipu by the puddles on
the west side of the upper park area. And then it moved to the large
tipu by the corner stairs and we lost it again.
The Tennessee Warbler first reported on 9/30 (not sure who found it) was
foraging high up in the tipu by the puddles. Difficult bird.
There is a big increase in Yellow-rumpeds in the park since I was there
last, which may be why the Cape May moved. Might have been getting
harassed. Don't know if that's why the Parula was moving around so much.
