Dawn and I spent some time at Gaviota SP this afternoon and were surprised by the warbler turnout. Standing at the extreme northeast corner of the camping area, overlooking the creek, we found seven species of warbler in one small stand of junipers just across the creek. These included a Hermit, a Tennessee, a Nashville, a Yellow, an Orange, several Yellow-rumped, and two Common Yellowthroat. In that same small stand we also had a warbling vireo, a Wrentit, and a Ruby-crowned Kinglet. It was a fun day at the State Park.
We initially hoped to find one of the rarer sparrows that have been see there lately. The closest we came to that was a single Lincoln’s Sparrow.
