Date: 10/3/25 8:32 pm From: Tom Fiore <tomfi2...> Subject: [nysbirds-l] Central Park, NYC - Friday, 10/3 - 10 sparrow spp., 20+ Warbler spp., etc.
Central Park, Manhattan, N.Y. City - Friday, Oct. 3rd -
A Clay-colored Sparrow found by M.B. Kooper (-not Cooper-) and seen by many later on Friday was among the ten native sparrow species in Central Park on the day, with large numbers of observers and photographers out and about for all of the day in all sectors of the park, in the collective. Other sparrows included White-crowned, Lincolns, Savannah, and as a member of the sparrow tribe, Dark-eyed Junco in addition to other common and typical sparrow-species arrivals. Incidentally, a Clay-colored Sparrow may have been lingering in the vicinity of the sighting for Friday, and by then had been fully confirmed via photos made available in eBird, etc.
The park also held a minimum of twenty migratory American-hemisphere warbler species, including Hooded, Prairie, Bay-breasted, Cape May, Blackpoll and many more species. A Solitary Sandpiper was still being reported at The Pool in the parks n-w quadrant, while a Pied-billed Grebe was ongoing at the reservoir. More than 90 species of wild, native birds were seen in or over Central Park on Friday alone.
. . .
At Battery Park City, a Connecticut Warbler was photographed - K. Figueroa - on Friday, a bird which hopefully is recovering after having flown into a window very nearby.
Farther north in Madison Square Park north of East 23rd Steeet in Manhattan, a different Connecticut Warbler was still lingering, a bird seen by many over recent days. Just 18 or so city-blocks to the north-northwest, a Yellow-breasted Chat was ongoing at Number 3 Bryant Parks small plaza -adjacent to the actual Bryant Park-, the latter bird seen by hundreds of observers over recent days.
Good birding,
