Subject: [CT Birds] Coastal Center
10/1 Milford, Connecticut Audubon Coastal Center. 9:30am-1PM. mid-tide
receding, 60-65F, sunny.
Several class visits this morning with very enthusiastic students, plus
other visitors.
On the marsh: As the tide receded, a mixed flock of gulls and shorebirds
were foraging in the marsh -including 5 Laughing gulls, Ring billed &
herring gulls, 5 Greater yellow legs, 10 D.C. Cormorants, 7 Black bellied
plovers, 4 American Oystercatchers, 3 juvenile Yellow crowned night
herons, 2 Snowy Egrets, 7 Great Egrets & 5 American Black ducks.
1 Northern harrier flew over and 1 Buteo ( I think a Broad winged hawk).
On the grounds & feeders: 2 Eastern Towhees (male & female), 3 Yellow
rumped warblers, 1 Yellow bellied sapsucker, 2 Mourning doves, 1 White
throated sparrow, 11 House sparrows, 2 Carolina wrens, 8 Blue Jays, 1
White breasted nuthatch, 1 Catbird, 2 Mockingbirds, 1 Golden crowned
kinglet, 1 Eastern Phoebe, 2 Cardinals & 2 Red bellied woodpeckers.
