Observation start time: 07:30:00 Observation end time: 14:00:00 Total
observation time: 6.5 hours

Official Counter: Craig Jackson

Observers: Bill Shapiro

Weather:
Winds were light to moderate (2) first from the NNW with maximum gusts of
16 km/hr, then from the N, then NNE, and from the NE during the last hour
of the watch, with slightly less powerful gusts. Temperature -- 16-20°C;
Cloud cover -- day began with 100% cirrus cloud cover, which gradually
became thinner and thinner until finally disappearing entirely in the
northern part of the sky at 12 Noon, but still covering 80% of the sky.

Raptor Observations:
More migrants than I had expected with some AK and SS passing close to the
Rock. Birds were mostly soaring before taking off as the winds were
favorable.

Non-migrating -- 2 TV, an OS that looked to be a migrant until it turned
south, a RT, and a probable RS

Bill Shapiro observed with me for over an hour when we saw most of our
hawks.

Non-raptor Observations:
Birds -- 190 DC Cormorants in three groups (50, 40, and 100); 2 Ravens
playing in the air with each other

Predictions:
Tomorrow's winds will be strong from the NNE and getting stronger and
shifting to the NE as the day progresses. While normally winds from the
NNE/NE are not generally favorable for hawk migration at this site, these
winds from the north may bring the hawks that were observed in Maine today.
[Cadillac Mountain had almost 50 SS and 50 AK; and Clarry Hill had close to
50 SS and 17 AK].
