observation time: 8.75 hours

Official Counter: Craig Jackson

Observers: Jack Miano

Visitors:
Tanya Wright was interested in finding out more about hawks, and hawk
watching, both in general and on Pinnacle Rock in particular

Weather:
Winds were light (1) mostly from the NW, although at times they were
variable especially toward the end of the day. Maximum gust was 10 km/hr
at the beginning of the watch; temperature went from 17-22-20° C; Cloud
cover went from 0-100% as cirrus cloud moved in from the southwest
eventually covering the whole sky, even though the clouds were very thin

Raptor Observations:
Only four migrating raptors, but when the last two were Peregrines that
flew by the Rock, one within 100 feet, it wan't all bad.
Non-migrating -- 2 TV and one RT

Jack Miano was with me from 12:30-2:45 and found our only Osprey

Non-raptor Observations:
Birds -- 3 Canada Geese (probably local birds), 1 Chimney Swift, 1
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker (first one seen here), 1 Red-bellied Woodpecker, 1
Raven, 20 Cedar Waxwing, and 10 Grackles (not migrating)
Monarch Butterflies -- 4
Dragonflies -- 2 Green Darners

Predictions:
Winds are predicted to again be light from the NW in the morning and
changing to NE in the afternoon. Not particularly promising for hawk
migration, but possibly better than the following days when the winds will
be easterly.
