Subject: [Ohio-birds] BlacklickWoods,9-27: migrants
Blacklick Woods doesn't get the Fall scrutiny that Blendon does, but seemed
nearly as good. I spent Saturday morning scouring the Park, starting with
the creekside meadows of the East Multipurpose Loop, then working through
the Nature Center, forest loops, and west picnic areas. Migrants were in
all these places, but it would be hard to call it a fallout. Thrushes
were the highlight, with 3 forest thrush species (no Hermit), but warblers
were pretty scarce, and vireos were a no show. Highlights included:

Woodpeckers - common ones all over; had Pileated at several spots, but no
sapsucker
Flycatchers -- Pewees in several spots, and 2 Phoebes around the creekside
meadows
Vireos -- not a one
Wrens, kinglets -- plenty of House Wrens in creekside meadows, Carolinas in
the forest, and a Ruby Cr.Kinglet in the Ash Grove picnic area
Thrushes -- Swainson's everywhere, but the Maple Trail also had Woods and
the East loop had a Gray-cheeked
Mimids -- Catbirds were everywhere, though not common; the Nature Center
meadow had a thrasher
Warblers -- scarce and clustered, with East loop and Maple Trail the most
productive spots. List included Ovenbird, Tennessee, Magnolias,
Bay-breasted, Cape May, Redstarts, ComYellowthroats
Cadinalids - Rose-br.Grosbeak and plenty of Cardinals, but no buntings
Sparrows -- Fields, Songs, Towhees, mostly along the creekside meadows of
the East loop
Icterids -- lots of Grackles (they roosted in forest), and a few Red-winged
Blackbirds
Finches -- nothing but House Finches and Goldfinches
