Dear Birders,
I was asked to send an update based on our findings last Thursday. On September 25, 2025 we collected over 70 dead birds at UC and EPA in Cincinnati due to collisions with windows and had 10 stunned birds (about four of those made it). Since that day, we (my students, field crew and I) have found 14 more on Friday, September 26, 12 on Saturday and today another 11.
Yesterday's haul included both Mourning and Connecticut warblers. We get dead birds nearly daily, so please give this some thought! Multiple this one location by many hundreds of thousands of glass-dominated buildings and lights on everywhere 24-7 and you the extent of the problem.
I'd like to note a huge thanks to the Kirtland Bird Club (KBC) and their Ohio Avian Project Initiative (OAPI) for funding some of this research and noting how valuable helpful it was on a day like this past Thursday. They provide some truly wonderful avian conservation support.
Cordially,
Ron Canterbury
