Kevin--

I forwarded your post to our Franklin Mt. hawk counters list last Friday
when I saw it.  Birds do typically approach the lookout from the NE,
often along the I-88 corridor.  However, we have checked various sites
'upstream' in that direction on promising days, and not found a
particular concentration of birds.

There were 47 broad-wings tallied that day, out of a total of 65
raptors.  Broad-wings tend to follow ridges like that paralleling I-88
less than other hawks, so they could have cut south before reaching
Franklin Mt.  We don't count Turkey Vultures until Oct. 1, so don't know
how many appeared.
