Subject: [SanDiegoRegionBirding] American Bittern, 9/26 AM at Ruff spot
Apologies for not posting this earlier, as I was under the impression that someone else was going to do so.

This morning, a few of us were trying to refind the Ruff after it flew off briefly when we noticed an American Bittern had appeared on the near shore right in front of us. No one saw it fly or walk in. It stood at attention for a few seconds then walked into the taller grass on the east edge of the lake. It was still findable in the tall grass when we left at 9:40.

The monthly meetings of San Diego Field Ornithologists (SDFO) are currently virtual, open only to members, at 6pm on the third Tuesday of every month.

Two notable on-line resources are available for San Diego birders: the San Diego County Bird Atlas by Phil Unitt (2004) - http://sdplantatlas.org/BirdAtlas/BirdPages.aspx ; and an update of notable records for San Diego County (2002–present), compiled by Paul Lehman - https://bvaudubon.org/birding-resources/ .
