We have hummingbird heaters that work great and can be used on virtually any existing hummingbird feeder. They do need an electrical cord and use a 5 or 7 watt night light bulb to provide gentle warmth so they won't overheat the nectar.

We had a Rufous Hummer show up in late Nov, 2022. During the frigid blast in December we were in the Austin area (my windshield washer system froze-up) but the woman staying at our house changed the hummingbird feeder several times a day to keep the water liquid. The hummer stayed through the deep freeze and left in early January. (I think the higher sugar content helped slow the freezing.) We considered investing in the heater for the water, but deferred since none were available locally.

We don’t have a hummer heater but will be looking for one. We do have a couple of heated birdbaths so all the birds can get a drink if the water freezes. We didn’t need them much of the time last winter it wasn’t that cold for long.

Most I have seen & own attach to the bottom of a standard pan (dish) type feeder... either one with a bottle above or just the pan. Usually need one with built in perches on the pan to which to hook the heater. Heater contains a small nightlight type bulb that keeps the water just above freezing. It plugs into a nearby socket. Not expensive. Once you get a winter hummingbird you will never not put one out. Especially when the rest of the world is solid ice & this tiny bird is feasting on your little offering of sugared water.
