White belly and black breast and head. Bill uniformly bluish, not patterned or partitioned. I was not close enough to see the tip of the bill. I attended to the wing stripe in flight. It seemed faint in both the secondaries and primaries. I did not note the back color."

- Comments: "The Clay-colored Sparrow showed brighter amber tones to its overall coloration, had a bolder face pattern, a bolder malar line than the Brewer's Sparrows. The crown had more of an unstreaked central stripe with streaking on the lateral crown. I did not see the nape well, but the part of the collar that I could see was grey and well-defined,"

The wings appeared plain gray without wing bars. The undertail coverts were bright yellow, and there was a faint yellow wash across the breast. The bird was observed briefly in the tams, moving actively through the foliage, approximately here: (34.38990, -119.50538)."
