Central Park, Manhattan, N.Y. City - to Wednesday, September 24th -
On Tuesday, 9/23, a first-fall-plumaged Red-headed Woodpecker was seen in active flight from north to south, by a group with a guide for the not-for profit American Museum of Natural History bird-walk in early morning. Sometimes this species can linger for days or much-longer in the same areas, however some of this species on active migrations, flying thru in a morning flight, may not linger.
To Wednesday 9/24, still at least 22 species of migratory American warblers were being found, and again including such species as Hooded, Prairie, Cape May, Bay-breasted, Blackpoll and many more Warbler species, seen by many - to at least Tuesday, a somewhat late Blue-winged Warbler was also present at Central Park, and the latter species was also seen elsewhere in Manhattan concurrently. A good diversity of migrants overall was continuing to Wednesday with such migrants showing as Yellow-billed Cuckoo, and many others.
Good birding to all,
Tom Fiore
