Hi everyone —
As Naomi mentioned earlier, we're changing the location of the HMBC field
trip scheduled for Saturday, 27 September from Normanskill Farm in the City
of Albany to the Normans Kill Ravines Park in the Town of Bethlehem.
National Grid has been conducting major natural gas infrastructure upgrades
on the Normanskill Farm property most of the summer and in my few recent
visits there, I've found the construction activity much too disruptive for
birding.
I've only been to Normans Kill Ravines Park once before, but it was pretty
active with migrant songbirds during my brief visit. The terrain is a bit
more challenging than Normanskill Farm, with winding, narrow trails and a
bit of a climb in some spots, but nothing too strenuous.
The official entrance for Normans Kill Ravines Park is 70 Wright Lane in
Delmar. There's ample parking at the trailhead. Google Maps pin below:
Originally, we were supposed to finish the Normanskill Farm trip with an
optional visit to the Warbler Brewery in Delmar for anyone interested, but
we could always just go to nearby Brewtus Roasting for coffee instead,
depending on everyone's preferences.
The HMBC website will be updated with this location change soon but I
wanted to get the word out early this week.
