Subject: [SanDiegoRegionBirding] Juv. RUFF at Lower Otay Lake
Hello friends,

Following up with the earlier report on the local WhatsApp group, a juvenile Ruff was seen earlier this morning around 11:00am by Christine Beck at the Lower Otay River area [GPS: 32.633877, -116.898749]. Big thanks to Christine and all others who have been checking this mudflat for migrants this fall.

Last we heard, Paul was on-site, and no peeps of any size were afoot. Likely flushed by the local peregrine falcon. Any news from Otay today?

Thank you,

Lindsay Willrick

PS: THE COUNTDOWN BEGINS...we are almost two weeks out from the famous broad-billed hummingbird arrival date in Golden Hill. I have my feeders up and ready to welcome her, and hopefully her boyfriend too. I hope she survived the summer and returns for the 3rd year. I'll post if she shows!

Past Arrival-Departure dates:

October 4, 2024 to Feb 24, 2025
October 9, 2023 to Feb 12, 2024

The monthly meetings of San Diego Field Ornithologists (SDFO) are currently virtual, open only to members, at 6pm on the third Tuesday of every month.

Two notable on-line resources are available for San Diego birders: the San Diego County Bird Atlas by Phil Unitt (2004) - http://sdplantatlas.org/BirdAtlas/BirdPages.aspx ; and an update of notable records for San Diego County (2002–present), compiled by Paul Lehman - https://bvaudubon.org/birding-resources/ .
