Observation start time: 07:00:00 Observation end time: 14:00:00 Total observation time: 6.5 hours
Official Counter: Brian Rusnica
Observers: Visitors: Thanks to Craig Jackson for hiking up today. Scott McCue also joined us on an all-around slow Sunday on the summit.
Weather: Warm with light NE winds to start that turned SE by afternoon. Nice high cirrus clouds to scan against for most of the watch. Raptor Observations: The first couple hours of the morning turned up a few small streams of unorganized Broad-winged Hawks, but no major flight developed over our skies. Another pair of BLACK VULTURE probably has us setting a new seasonal record. We recorded a decent number of Osprey once again, and had some nice views of Bald Eagles of various ages and migratory statuses. An adult Red-shouldered Hawk kited up high over the summit and gave a nice look. A juvenile Northern Harrier flew past us at eye level; one of the closest looks at this species in a while. After going a couple hours without a Broad-wing, we stopped counting at 3pm EDT today. Non-migrant Raptors: Turkey Vulture 15 Bald Eagle 11 Red-tailed Hawk 3 Red-shouldered Hawk 2 Cooper's Hawk 1
Non-raptor Observations: Common Raven 14
Predictions: Warm and clear with SSW winds. Not expecting a big flight tomorrow. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Brian Rusnica (<brian_rusnica...>) Mount Watatic information may be found at: http://www.massbird.org/emhw
