I stepped out to my yard just before sunset to do some work, taking my binocs just in case. Of course I looked up, actually thinking, "Hawks might be going to roost about now." Sure enough, there was a line of hawks flying north over town--a minute earlier and I'd have had a good view of them to the southeast, catching the sunlight. As it was they formed a kettle to the northwest of me and I eventually lost sight of them.
It pays to look up. Not often, but just enough to be rewarding.
