I focused on passerine migrants here, visiting the Ancients Trail, Indian Ridge prairie, and the Cedar Ridge area. Diversity of migrants was pretty good, but numbers were thin, so it took much of the morning to build a good list. Vegetation here is suffering from lack of rain, so most of the activity was close to Big Darby Creek, where the plants were less stressed and the insects more common. Notables for the morning included:
Raptors -- no obvious movement, with only a few TVs and 1 calling Red-shouldered Hummingbirds -- none, but the flowers here were mostly wilting in the drought Flycatchers - hardly any, with a calling Peewee at Cedar Ridge the only consolation Vireos - none, which was odd given how common they've been on the east side of Columbus Thrushes - Swainsons at all stops, but also had a Wood along the edge of the Indian Ridge prairie Mimids -- Catbirds fairly widespread, but also had Brown Thrashers on the Ancients Trail & Indian Ridge prairie. Cedar Waxwings - small numbers in several spots, including a flock flycatching on the edge of the Indian Ridge prairie Wrens - few of either the resident Carolinas or migrant Houses Warblers -- small clusters along the Ancient Trail and the Cobshell Trail included Nashville, Tennessees, N.Parula, Black&Whites, Magnolias, Redstarts, Bay-breasted, Blackpoll, Blackburnian, Black-thr.Green, Wilson's, N.Waterthrush. and lots of Common Yellowthroats. Sparrows - not very common, but had Field, Chipping, Song, Lincoln's, and Towhee Carduelines -- Cardinals common, but also had groups of Indigo Buntings and 1 Scarlet Tanager Icterids -- no orioles, but a steady dribble of Red-winged Blackbirds and Grackles Finches - nothing other than House Finches & Goldfinches
