Observation start time: 07:15:00 Observation end time: 15:00:00 Total observation time: 7.75 hours
Official Counter: Jen Barrall, Phil Keener
Observers: Craig McCoy, Fred Paley, Jen Barrall, Ken Orvis, Mike Sankovich, Randy Phillips
Visitors: The York County Park Staff used social media to advertise today's hawkwatch as an opportunity for the public to learn more about hawk migration. As many as 15-20 people dropped in with interest in the migration and many stayed for an extended period. Another 30-40 visitors stopped in as they were out enjoying today's weather.
Weather: Temp = 16-23C, East wind to start shifting to SE and then south after 2 hrs and staying from that direction for the balance of the watch. Light winds with occasional gusts. Cloud cover started at 50%, cloudless by 1200, and then increasing cloudiness up to 50% by end of watch. Excellent visibility.
Raptor Observations: A rewarding day. Starting with the 1100 hour, regular BW kettles through end of watch. Nice osprey, harrier, sharpie, and kestrel counts for this site on this date. Local BVs, TVs, red-taileds, bald eagles, vocal red-shouldered(s).
Non-raptor Observations: Common ravens, Canada geese flocks, tree swallow and chimney swift activity, some American robin movement but they seemed to be moving north more than south.11 Monarchs.
Predictions: Possibly another strong day as wind direction is predicted the same as today with cloud cover. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Parks Volunteer (<parks...>)
