Subject: [sbcobirding] Swainson's Hawk near Lake Jocelyn
I went to Lake Jocelyn very late this morning, hoping to turn up the Bobolink seen there a couple of days ago.  No luck on that and the Lake birding was pretty dull.  However, I spotted circling over the southwest end of the hill on the  side of the Lake, a juvenile light phase Swainson's Hawk.  While the bird was fairly distant, I could clearly make out the long, slightly bowed wings; pale throat, breast, and underwings; indistinct gray-ish pattern on the tail and underside of the wings, and generally brown back.  It soon circled out of sight, heading in the general direction of the Rincon.
The appearance of this hawk got me to wondering what the status of migrating Broad-winged Hawks at various hawk-watch site to the north of us.  Has anyone been keeping track?
