observation time: 8.5 hours

Official Counter: John Weeks

Observers: Gary Adamson, John Weeks, Joseph Sefter, Steve Tysz

Visitors:
Wes and his golden lab Dinah, who unfailingly retrieved the pheasant decoy
Wes hurled several times into the tall weeds on the hilltop.

Weather:
A day of steady wind but wildly variable cloudiness. Wind held nearly
constant at NW/NNW 5-10 mph. Clouds were virtually non-existent to start,
but increased to 85% cover, then diminished all afternoon to end near zero
again. Haze all day. Temperature 69-76 F.

Raptor Observations:
The birds were often distant and devilishly hard to see in the haze. This
has shaped up to be the worst season ever at Blueberry Hill. One hundred
fourteen Broad-wings would have been an encouraging count —— ten days
ago; now it is a disappointment. All of our other numbers thus far are at
historic lows as well. Not counted as migrants: 2 Turkey Vultures, 3 Bald
Eagles (2 ad., 1 juv.), 2 Red-shouldered Hawks, Red-tailed Hawk.

Non-raptor Observations:
Canada Geese (8), Duck species (6), Northern Flickers (2), Blue Jays (20,
migrating), Eastern Bluebird, Swainson's Thrush, American Goldfinch, Cape
May Warbler (1st-fall f.), Blackpoll Warbler, Yellow-rumped Warblers
(2).
