Subject: [cobirds] Grand Valley Audubon Banding Station - Bird Conservancy of the Rockies (09/17/25 - 09/18/25) – Mesa Co.

Forgot an update for yesterday, so today I’ll recap the last two days.
Overall, our species count is up to 13 with the additions of Western
Wood-Pewee, Plumbeous Vireo, Orange-crowned Warbler, Gambel’s White-crowned
Sparrow, Nashville Warbler, Mountain Chickadee. This might also be the
busiest season to date in terms of Bushtit captures.

*9/17/2025:* Another slower day but with a couple rare captures for our
station here in Mesa County.

*9 Newly Banded Birds:*

Mountain White-crowned Sparrow: 1

Orange-crowned Warbler: 2

Plumbeous Vireo: 1

Spotted Towhee: 1

Western Wood-Pewee: 1

Wilson’s Warbler: 3

*0 Recaptured Birds:*

*9/18/2025:* A slow and chilly start to the morning quickly shifted due to
a large uptick in captures around 10am (partly thanks to the bushtit’s).

*24 Newly Banded Birds:*

Bewick’s Wren: 1

Bushtit: 15

Gambel’s White-crowned Sparrow: 2

House Finch: 2

Mountain Chickadee: 1

Nashville Warbler: 1

Wilson’s Warbler: 2

*1 Recaptured Birds:*

Woodhouse’s Scrub-Jay: 1

The station will operate daily (Monday-Friday) from around 7:00a-1:00p
(weather dependent) until October 10th.

We’re located at James M Robb Colorado River State Park by the Kingfisher
parking lot. Follow the yellow signs pointing to the banding station! Feel
free to stop by when we’re around! Or join us on our Public Day on Sept 27th
.

*** Note: State park entrance fees apply. More information about Ridgway
State Park can be found here.
