I was birding Carpinteria Creek on my lunch break today and found a MOURNING WARBLER between 6th st & 8th st, at the fallen willow that crosses the creek (see BOC shot below). I was alerted by several 'chit'-type calls, which made me think it was something other than a Yellowthroat or MacGillivray's (I saw the previous report of the MOWA on Mentor Dr. on 9/16 and reviewed its calls). It stayed low to the ground, as it made it's way through the fallen willow, and popped up for some good looks. It had a very short tail, bright yellow vent, yellow throat, and partial eye arcs. Upon closer inspection, yellow supraloral is present as well.
Yesterday a BOBOLINK was present at the SW corner of Lake Jocelyn, in addition to a couple SORA and a VIRGINIA RAIL.
