Hi Nebraska birders,
I lost basically the entire day on the 11th to high winds, so I only had four banding days this past week. Overall numbers are still low, but there was a slight uptick in migrants with two more Wilson's Warbler and my first Orange-crowned Warbler of the season. In this week's edition of "common birds that we rarely catch," I caught a Blue Jay, only the second ever banded at Chadron. Also exciting for me was our first Yellow-breasted Chat of the season. They are caught every year at Chadron but in very low numbers. I had never had one in the hand before, so I was very glad to finally catch one.
Hopefully, the upcoming fronts and predicted cooler weather will bring in more migrants this coming week.
