White-winged Dove (Zenaida asiatica) (1)
- Reported Sep 09, 2025 11:17 by Kevin Zimmer
- Los Osos - intersection of South Bay Blvd and Santa Ysabel Avenue, San Luis Obispo, California
- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&<q...>,-120.823379&<ll...>,-120.823379 - Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S272502891 - Comments: "One that flew right past me as I was stopped at the signal light at the intersection of South Bay Blvd. and Santa Ysabel Avenue in Baywood. I was watching a pair of Eurasian Collared-Doves when the White-winged Dove came blasting past, headed ESE and out of sight. Compared to the Collared-Doves, the White-winged Dove was stockier, but noticeably shorter-tailed and the tail was not tapered towards the tip. The bird was darker brown above, with uniformly and more extensively dark remiges, bordered by strongly contrasting, crescent-shaped white patches on the coverts. I just saw bunches of WWDOs in west Texas a few weeks ago — they dominate the feeders in my brother’s backyard."
