Amazing what AI does . . . That's the Bacara, not the Bavaria! Sue Cook and I saw it a couple of times and Sue got photos; after she left, it came out again and Sophie and I saw it. Nice looks at common warblers, Chestnut-backed Chickadees, etc. Also present was a small Flycatcher whose identification we are not clear on. Sue took photos, which we will study a bit more. My best guess was Willow but . . .
I also visited Gaviota and Refugio State Parks before going to the Bacara. Props to Peter S. for turning up two good birds at Gaviota yesterday! The campground is full and birding wasn't easy. If you go, I'd suggest Wednesday as possibly a less-full day of the week. Campground will close October 1. Needless to say I did not see either the Painted Bunting or the Rose-breasted Grosbeak. Refugio was virtually dead and not worth the time spent there.
