Subject: [AZNMbirds] Catalina Co Park this AM
Stopped in to the pond at Catalina Co Park this morning, just after 7. The sun had just emerged over the mountains so birds were warming (Heck, it was in the 60”s…brrrr!) on the tree tops and the utility wires. First I noticed were several Western and Cassin’s Kingbirds teed up. Western Tanagers were abundant. At the pond, there were at least a dozen tanagers. I heard something different…. Took a minute or two to realize it was frogs in the pond. Something else different was a Green-tailed Towhee. A third odd sound became a Woodhouse’s Scrub Jay. Blue and Black-headed Grosbeaks were vying for perches in the several dead branches. Only warblers were three Wilson’s, two males and a female. A Warbling Vierio was sipping from the inlet pipe. Lark Sparrows are on the increase with 10-11. First of the fall Gray Flycatcher and two more Scrub Jays as I headed back to my car.
12 Turkey Vulture were roosting, and unfolding into the sun.
White-lined Sphinx Moth caterpillars were still around. They are 3” long black yellow and orange colored. Last week there were thousands; so many it was difficult to avoid stepping on them.

At home, a Bobcat was outside the fence, which excited the poodle no end.
