Subject: Red Slough Bird Survey - Sep. 16

It was partly cloudy and warm with a little wind on the bird survey today. 50 species were found. Most of our waders are leaving now that nesting is over. Black-bellied Whistling Duck numbers are growing as they are staging on Pintail Lake. Anhingas and Neotropic Cormorant numbers are dropping also as they disperse away from their nesting colonies. Gallinule numbers are dropping also, especially the Purple Gallinules as they start leaving earlier than the Common's. There is still some fairly small gallinule young around so not all the adults will be leaving soon. Here is my list for today:
