Subject: Re: [OrangeCountyBirding] Amazons of Irvine Ctr Dr
Thank you for the insight. I moved to Santa Ana from the UK four years ago, and I have noticed the Amazona sp. as well as Psittacara sp. populations back and forth, even perching on trees and utility poles in our back garden as well as our neighbours'. Sizes of flocks vary, but in the past weeks, I've noted that particularly in the mornings they're much bigger than they would be in springtime.

The spread of the birds are not surprising, particularly if it is over a span of a few years. This is very much like the Ring Necked Parakeet (Psittacula krameri) that is found in abundance in London, and I have been hearing reports of them (although intermittently) in other parts of the UK, even where I grew up near Swansea. It would also be interesting to read or learn about their behaviours in association with corvids, also with other genera of birds that are considered to be of "high intelligence and adaptability", native or otherwise.
