9/17 Milford, Connecticut Audubon Coastal Center. 10am-1PM. high tide- receding, overcast, 70F. A teacher from Wales visited today- with a background in biology/nature/conservation and very interested in the Coastal Center. He discussed some of the species in the UK, and when he visited Saudi Arabia & Egypt- always interesting visitors. On the marsh: 2 ospreys flew over, 1 Yellow crowned night heron, 1 Canada goose preening on the marsh edge for over an hour. As the tide was falling- a flock of about 35 D.C. Cormorants flew in (with several immatures)- they were all diving and fishing, 1 American Oystercatcher, 4 Snowy Egrets, 9 Great Egrets, 7 Laughing gulls and several Ring billed & Herring gulls. On the grounds & feeders: 3 House finches (1 bathing in fountain), a pair of Cardinals bathing in fountain, 2 Blue Jays, 1 Carolina wren singing, 3 Crows, 3 Mourning doves, 2 House sparrows.
