Subject: Chimney Swift Roost, Newburg, Phelps County
I got this message from Jerry Decker of Rolla and felt MoBirders would want
to know if this cool find:

Sep 13, 2025: Our chapter was told that Chimney Swifts were roosting in
the chimney at the old Newburg high school building. Nina and I had to
check it out. KY3.s weather app said sunset was at 7:17. We arrived at
6:30. First swift appeared at 7:14. Really got going about 5 minutes
later. By 7:35 had really started tapering off. Last swift we saw was at
7:44. If I said there were 2,000 birds, that is probably a conservative
number.

This is the only swift roost I know of. I was told the old high school at
Salem used to have a roost in it’s chimney
