WsfWhile waiting for the fresh batch of nectar to cool, I looked out and saw both youngsters facing Papa Cardinal, waiting to be fed. Such a touching scene, no matter how often you see it. One of them followed him to the tray with chips, fluttering and begging for food. Next thing you know, the youngster flies into the walnut tree and dad took the food up there. Talk about catering to your offspring...
Meanwhile, the female was tending to the other youngster. Both parents are molting with the male looking more scruffy. As I'm writing this, I'm watching one of the little ones scratching and pecking on the edge of the flowerbed. So cute.
Goldfinch numbers have increased. A fair number have their winter plumage already.
