Was seen through scope, from beach by parking lot, at edge of reeds 200 feet west of beach. Then, not seen for three hours, between about 1 PM and 4 PM, after which I left.
Empidonax, with two wingbars and thin, roundish eye ring. Orange lower mandible. Round head."

Alder Flycatcher (Empidonax alnorum) (1)
- Reported Sep 17, 2025 10:55 by Nick & Jane
- Andree Clark Bird Refuge, Santa Barbara, California
- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&<q...>,-119.6572856&<ll...>,-119.6572856 - Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S273954807 - Media: 8 Photos
- Comments: "Continuing rare eastern flycatcher similar to willow but with smaller bill, rounder head, more striking thin eyering, and brighter contrast between green upper and whitish/slight yellow-green underparts (this includes its whitish chin—and bright double wingbars). Its green-streaked chest separated the two distinct areas of its bright underside—the chin and belly/undertail. Green streaks were also apparent on its flanks. The bird’s upperparts (head, nape, back, wings, tail) were also green, and its bill, which often hung open from panting in the heat, was orange. We saw the bird flycatching two separate times, mostly low along the reeds over the mudflats (seen from the open mudflats/dirt at parking lot, while standing at the water’s stinky edge looking north). The bird was about thirty or forty yards away and often perched low. It panted a lot, and both times after some flycatching, it disappeared into the bullrushes where it possibly hid from bullying phoebes. Distant photos."

- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&<q...>,-119.6572856&<ll...>,-119.6572856 - Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S273945361 - Comments: "Excellent views on the east side of the small parking lot mud apron. Viewed with four other observers who likely got great photos. Olive green/brown roundish head and back; white throat and chest separated by a grayish band; the white throat was prominent as were the white wing bars; bicolored bill (orange/yellow below). Expert consensus of others: Alder Flycatcher rather than Willow Flycatcher."

Uniformly white base toy he underparts marked with dark streaks, finely streaked throat, pinkish legs, white supercilium of even width, etc. all helped me to differentiate it from a Louisiana Waterthrush."
