Subject: Mountaineer Audubon Field Trip --- Little Indian Creek WMA
Hi, all!

Though it may feel like summer out there at times, we are in the midst of
fall migration! Mid-September is an amazing time to get out and bird
the Mountain State as breeding birds are fattening up for the journey south
and boreal migrants are streaming down out of the north. This Saturday,
September 20th at 7:30am, Mountaineer Audubon will be sponsoring a field
trip to Little Indian Creek WMA in Monongalia County. We will meet at the
upper parking area (GPS coordinates approximately here: 39.59539,
-80.06615) and walk the main gravel road south of the gate. The walk will
be slow and easy on fairly level terrain. This should be good timing for a
variety of migrant songbirds. I have heard there was a spruce budworm
outbreak in the northeast and maritimes, so maybe numbers of Bay-breasted,
Cape May, and Tennessee Warblers will be increased. Over the past decade or
so Little Indian Creek in fall has been the premiere spot in the state, and
one of the most reliable in the whole country, to catch up with migrating
Connecticut Warblers. We'll need some luck to *connect* with these
skulkers, but we have had great luck in the past. I hope to see you out
there! As always, there is no fee to attend, and reservations are not
required. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out!

Good birding,
Derek
