Subject: Re: [SanDiegoRegionBirding] More info on the Louisiana Waterthrush in Poway
Hi,

I didn't notice the wing droop when I was out there, but I do see what
Dennis is talking about when looking at photos. Not only may this poor
bird have a slight wing droop, but it also appears it has a deformed
bill. Every single posted photo shows its bill open, and it's that way
in every one of the many photos I took. Appears it can't completely
close its bill. It had plenty of energy, and I saw it picking up food,
and some of the photos show it with food, so seems it's eating, but its
possible it may drop some of what it tries to eat. It can fly, it flew
across Midland into a small tree at one point when I was watching it,
and then flew back, but that's a far cry from flying to migrate.

The monthly meetings of San Diego Field Ornithologists (SDFO) are currently virtual, open only to members, at 6pm on the third Tuesday of every month.

Two notable on-line resources are available for San Diego birders: the San Diego County Bird Atlas by Phil Unitt (2004) - http://sdplantatlas.org/BirdAtlas/BirdPages.aspx ; and an update of notable records for San Diego County (2002–present), compiled by Paul Lehman - https://bvaudubon.org/birding-resources/ .
