Subject: [Ohio-birds] SciotoAudubon,9-14-25: migrants
The Columbus Audubon trip to this migrant corridor in downtown Columbus had
several clusters of migrants along the riparian corridor of the Scioto
River, with enough individuals between the cluster to keep us entertained
for several hours, The best clusters were around the boat ramp area and
along old Whittier Ave above the wetlands. The bay was also loaded with
waterbirds, though nothing unexpected. Turtles were also unusually
common, hauled up on logs and rocks around the shore of the river. Bird
highlights included:

Waterfowl - nothing but mallards and a few geese
Cormorants - many, all along the river and in the bay
Herons&Egrets - only Great Egrets and Great Blue Herons, though they were
common
Shorebirds -12 Killdeer and 3 Lesser yellowlegs were along the muddy
peninsula across from the boat ramp
Gulls - roughly a dozen Ring-billed fishing off the boat ramp; appeared to
catch several small fish
Raptors - very light, with only a few TVs and 1 Osprey
Flycatchers - 2 E.Phoebes around the boat ramp area, 1 Wood Pewee along Old
Whittier
Swifts&Swallows - a few Chimney Swifts, a few Rough-winged Swallows over
the river
Vireos - singing Warblings at several spots, plus a singing White-eyed
along Old Whittier
Wrens,Gnatcatcher - House & Carolina Wrens in several spots, and heard a
Gnatcatcher.
Thrushes - nothing other than a few Robins
Mimids - Catbirds in multiple locations, plus 2 Brown Thrashers along Old
Whittier
Warblers - highlights were 2 late Yellows and 2 late Yellow-throated, but
also had Tennessees, Cape May, Chestnut-sided, Bay-breasted, Blackpoll,
Redstart, Ovenbird, and Wilson's
Sparrows - a flock of Chippings around the boat ramp area, plus a few Songs
elsewhere
Blackbirds - not a one
Carduelines - Cardinals common, but also had an Indigo Bunting along Old
Whittier
Finches - nothing other than the expected trio of House Finches,
Goldfinches, and House Sparrows
