Yesterday morning provided a wonderful time in the back yard. I heard a Swainson's Thrush and when I began walking toward the sound, I saw movement. Through my binoculars, there were 2 Ovenbirds sitting on a downed log over the stream, and beside them was a Gray Catbird. Seeing movement further along the stream, about 4 feet above my head, I was treated to 3 Bay-breasted Warblers, 2 Magnolia Warblers, a female Black-throated Blue preening after using the steam puddles, a Common Yellowthroat female, a Warbling Vireo, and 2 American Redstarts that were dislodging insects from the leaves above my head and catching them in a flutter about 2 feet from me. When activity there finally ended, I began walking back and saw a Blackburnian Warbler and a Pewee, while the Swainson's still called and the Warbling Vireo began singing. A magical time!
