Subject: recent field trips including ChicoryLane
Hi Everyone,
Field trip season is in full swing and we've had some extremely beautiful weather, great groups of people, and once in a while a cooperative bird.

Thurs Sept 4, Arboretum, highlights included a Rose-breasted Grosbeak and a Scarlet Tanager that sat on top of an oak for a while and then took to the skies southbound https://ebird.org/checklist/S271412361<https://nam10.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Febird.org%2Fchecklist%2FS271412361&data=05%7C02%<7CSCBIRDCL...>%7Cddda9f6758d141aa2ced08ddf3ac163f%7C7cf48d453ddb4389a9c1c115526eb52e%7C0%7C0%7C638934642604284658%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJFbXB0eU1hcGkiOnRydWUsIlYiOiIwLjAuMDAwMCIsIlAiOiJXaW4zMiIsIkFOIjoiTWFpbCIsIldUIjoyfQ%3D%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&sdata=rGCbzxGu5MKZ1oSmhQVQDEkFB7IJzFy5xXm7youkRXQ%3D&reserved=0>

Tues Sept 9, Millbrook, highlights included a Bald Eagle, multiple chances to see Warbling Vireos and Tennessee Warblers, and a couple decent eye level looks at a Wilson's Warbler that even sang for us a few times https://ebird.org/checklist/S272407183<https://nam10.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Febird.org%2Fchecklist%2FS272407183&data=05%7C02%<7CSCBIRDCL...>%7Cddda9f6758d141aa2ced08ddf3ac163f%7C7cf48d453ddb4389a9c1c115526eb52e%7C0%7C0%7C638934642612481719%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJFbXB0eU1hcGkiOnRydWUsIlYiOiIwLjAuMDAwMCIsIlAiOiJXaW4zMiIsIkFOIjoiTWFpbCIsIldUIjoyfQ%3D%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&sdata=bzXThMGC8Mwz40ENmtWOZ%2Ff%2BPDPZUHH%2FcFKht6igkiY%3D&reserved=0>

Sat Sept 13, ChicoryLane Farm, it was again a super clear blue sky day with many birds around but tough to get good looks at anything with birds moving fast and diving for the bushes. Lincoln's Sparrow was a neat early fall arrival, but was not seen by most people. With 34 folks, it was especially difficult to get everyone on any bird, but a few were obliging including a flock of Cedar Waxwings, a female flicker, and Solitary Sandpiper that came down from the sky, landed on a log in the pond, and then departed after a little visit. We also had a cool look at a garter snake. https://ebird.org/checklist/S273112035<https://nam10.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Febird.org%2Fchecklist%2FS273112035&data=05%7C02%<7CSCBIRDCL...>%7Cddda9f6758d141aa2ced08ddf3ac163f%7C7cf48d453ddb4389a9c1c115526eb52e%7C0%7C0%7C638934642612513147%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJFbXB0eU1hcGkiOnRydWUsIlYiOiIwLjAuMDAwMCIsIlAiOiJXaW4zMiIsIkFOIjoiTWFpbCIsIldUIjoyfQ%3D%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&sdata=inX38LuZoQjy7mewOiQ4fD5jYkxQfz0OQIdIMlTb%2FuM%3D&reserved=0>

Joe

P.S. The white-pine rich areas in the forest are filling up with Red-breasted Nuthatches. I had 37 this morning on different parts of Poe Mountain near Spring Mills/Coburn.
