Observation start time: 07:15:00 Observation end time: 14:00:00 Total observation time: 6.75 hours
Official Counter: Craig Jackson
Observers: Visitors: Miles Crusberg and his friend Chloe Dixon, Oliver Kleinbub, and Ken Kirio
Weather: Light (1-2) West winds shifting to NW until 1 PM when they swung around to the SE; Temperature -- 17-23°C; Clouds were shifting all day. At beginning of the day almost entire sky was covered; then it cleared before becoming a "mackerel sky," becoming more dense until it broke up at 11 AM, when cumulus clouds started forming, which became more and more dense until the end of the watch
Raptor Observations: No migrant raptors Non-migrating -- An Osprey, which appeared to head for Spot Pond, and a Red-tailed Hawk; possible Red-shoulders jousting with each other, but not visible long enough to positively identify
Non-raptor Observations: Birds -- 3 Double-crested Cormorants; 1 Northern Flicker; 3 Common Ravens; 15 Cedar Waxwings (constantly shifting trees and positions within the trees); and about 40 Common Grackles
Predictions: Winds from the east for the next few days are not very promising. Next day with westerly winds will be Friday, which at this point looks like it might be a good day for seeing hawks migrate at the Rock. The winds will start from the west and become stronger as they shift to the NW and N. These northerly winds will continue into Saturday, so Saturday might also be good for migrants. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Craig Jackson (<crleja1949...>)
