Subject: [NHBirds] 80 Nighthawks - Franklin Falls - Final Report
Warm southwest winds brought still more nighthawks this evening.  Just feet from the bench I sit on a flying ant colony erupted, sending its members into the sky, the first I've seen this year.  Normally we would see flying ants during the final week of August on peak count days.  Supposedly the ants bring out the nighthawks but I don't know of any direct evidence that ants are nighthawk food.
Unfavorable winds tomorrow mean that this is a good point to call it a season.  Ideally we would count until we reach zero so we know the duration of migration but I doubt many more will pass after today.  The final season count is 6,111.  Many thanks to all who helped out.
