This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for September 13, 2025.
The HOODED MERGANSER at Ken Malloy Harbor Regional Park in Harbor City continued through September 7.
A WHITE-WINGED DOVE was at the San Gabriel Coastal Basin Spreading Grounds in Pico Rivera on September 6 and another was in Torrance on September 7.
A COMMON NIGHTHAWK was heard over the Los Feliz area on September 2.
The PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER along lower Ballona Creek was reported through September 12. Check for it with the flock of Black-bellied Plovers along the creek or on the salt pan. This area is just upstream from the Pacific Ave. bridge.
A STILT SANDPIPER was along the lower Los Angeles River in Long Beach on September 9 at the Willow Street crossing.
A juvenile SABINE’S GULL continued at the Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB through September 12 when it was joined by a second bird. Also present on September 12 was a COMMON TERN.
A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL continued at Dockeiler State Beach in El Segundo through September 9 near Lifeguard Tower 53.
An AMERICAN BITTERN continued at the Ballona Freshwater Marsh through September 12. No parking is allowed on Jefferson, but nearby parking lots allow access.
An EASTERN KINGBIRD was at Stephen Sorensen Park in Lake Los Angeles from September 6-9.
Two PURPLE MARTINS were at the Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB from September 11-12.
A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was at Colorado Lagoon in Long Beach from September 9-10 on the golf course.
A BALTIMORE ORIOLE was by the parking area at Murphy Ranch Park in Whittier from September 5-8. A SUMMER TANAGER was present there from September 6-7.
BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLERS were at the West San Gabriel River Parkway Nature Trail Lakewood on September 6 and at Loyola Marymount University in Westchester on September 9.
An INDIGO BUNTING was along the San Gabriel River in South El Monte on September 6 just upstream from the Whittier Narrows Dam.
