On Monday at dusk in Blackwater Falls State Park, an American Woodcock surprised me. Yesterday there were 5 Wild Turkeys in the yard, and last week on Thursday I saw a leucistic Field Sparrow (all-white half of its head and two big feathers on its back) and a puzzled-looking juvenile House Sparrow. No hummingbirds since last Saturday 9/13, but there are still Broad-winged Hawks circling and calling.
I'm watering a couple of milkweed plants to support the monarch caterpillars eating them - all is wilted in the yard.
