It is always an unknown to me what birds will be around each morning. Today was a typical fall day with Wilson's Warblers dominating. Fifteen bird species were captured and banded including a first for the season Ovenbird. The two recaptures: Lincoln's Sparrow was originally banded on Monday and was recaptured today with the same amount of fat deposits and weight as the day it was banded; The Green-tailed Towhee banded 3 days ago had increased its weight by almost 3 grams. There appears to be no shortage of food around for them to bulk up for migration.
*49 New Banded Birds* Wilson's Warbler- 22 Orange-crowned Warbler- 5 MacGillivray's Warbler- 1 Ovenbird-1 Plumbeous Vireo- 1 Western Flycatcher-1 Least Flycatcher- 1 Brewer's Sparrow- 1 Chipping Sparrow- 1 Lincoln's Sparrow- 2 Green-tailed Towhee- 5 Lesser Goldfinch- 1 House Finch- 1 Hermit Thrush- 3 American Robin- 2
Hoping the other banding stations had a good day today. The Chico Banding station will be closed tomorrow and open on Monday at sunrise. If wanting to visit or bird the ranch, please sign up on the Aiken Audubon website. *www.aikenaudubon.com <http://www.aikenaudubon.com>*
