After yesterday’s dedication of rebuilt Mulhollan Blind (Lake Fayetteville), I have been feeling positively ebullient. Architect Michael Cockram told us the roof design is inspired by wings of birds. Soo too, in my view, the rest. Applies to the whole. Inspired by music of the stars. A work of science, art, and commitment to community. My prediction: wonderful birds, turtles, dragonflies, butterflies appear outside Mulhollan Blind windows. Ground around already covered by a rich stand of Spotted Jewelweed. We welcome Blue-winged Teal in our midst. We are readying now for Winter Ducks of a November with powerful north winds that will rattle the windows in my old house, announcing arrival en masse flocks of Lesser Scaup, Buffleheads, Red-breasted Mergansers, Surf Scoter. First Great Northern Diver (Common Loon) ... maybe … flocks of American Coots and Pied-billed Grebes certainly. All seen under protective wings … of Mulhollan Blind.
