When you see a first flock of 49 before 5:00 you know the count will go well. Yet another unprecedented count for September. Luckily help arrived, with return appearances by Dan and Shipp. Before 5:30 we broke the 5,000 mark for the season. Once again, after 6:00 birds started going in both directions causing rifts among the counters. Countable or not countable? Many birds were visible to the naked eye and flying directly overhead. The sky was so full they continued to fly overhead as we wlaked back to the parking lot. I wasn't sure how manty birds we saw but it "felt" like about a thousand. When I added up what I wrote down it came out to about a thousand.
Tomorrow looks like a rain out but if so, there must be more to count on Sunday.
