Bigger, longer-billed and darker-backed than nearby Spotted Sandpipers, with prominent white eye ring, olive legs and toes, tiny white speckling on wings and dorsum, rump and central rectrices dark, outer rectrices prominently barred black on white, underwing linings dark."

Small white triangles on brown plumage compared to long white triangles on black-crowneds. Large bill. Big red lovely demon bird eye. Ate a crab. Photo"
Yellow-crowned Night Heron (Nyctanassa violacea) (2) CONFIRMED
- Reported Sep 06, 2025 07:50 by Petra Clayton
- Tidelands Park, San Luis Obispo, California

- Comments: "Two juveniles seen at once, perched on a wooden structure at the last (private) boat ramp, past the public boat launch.
One is presumably the continuing juvenile observed at this location on 9/4/25 and also possibly the same juvenile, that was present on 9/3/25 at the Morro Bay SP Marina.
Today joined by a second juvenile.
Both have a dark, stout bill with yellow feathers at the base of the lower mandible; small white triangular spots on the covert feathers."

- Comments: "Juvenile. First found yesterday by Tom Edell, at the state park marina. Relocated by Jack and Petra this morning - Jack kindly returned to the marina to tell Herb Elliott and I that the bird had moved to Tidelands Park. Compared to juvenile BCNH, this bird had a heavier, entirely blackish bill; red-orange irides; “colder” and darker upper parts; with relatively small, white speckling on the wing-coverts and scapulars. Photos to follow."

Northern Waterthrush (Parkesia noveboracensis) (1) CONFIRMED
- Reported Sep 06, 2025 08:06 by Nick & Jane
- Hardie Park/Cayucos Creek (Ocean Ave Bridge to Hwy 1 Bridge), Cayucos, San Luis Obispo, California
- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&<q...>,-120.9062489&<ll...>,-120.9062489 - Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S271880952 - Media: 4 Photos
- Comments: "Continuing plump brown chonky, squishy warbler found by other cool birders. Chipping and foraging, mostly hiding in foliage. Divebombed me for playing its metallic chip call—zoomed low over my head. Bobbed its rear. Perched briefly. The bird had been east up the creek. After trying playback (after I’d searched from the lot west to the bridge), I was again back near the lot, playing the chip when the bird flew in to a bush next to me from the eastern creek, then back and forth across the creek a few times into foliage, before disappearing eastward into creek foliage. The bird had a thick pale supercilium, brown crown, thick brown eye stripe, brown streaking on pale underside, brown upperparts, pale throat and white undertail coverts. Other pale parts were yellowy-tan. Photos of bird giving me the eye."

Very accommodating bird! Dark brown upperparts, obvious pale supercillium, boldly streaked breast/underparts, pale undertail coverts, and dark pinkish legs. Constant bobbing motion. Gave a few loud spwik calls. May have briefly seen a second individual at small pool just up creek, but couldn’t confirm."
