To all, Along with leaders, Dan Bloch and myself, eight eager beginning birders and two others who had been birding much longer than 5 years gathered at the Sunnyvale Bay Trail trailhead along Caribbean Drive in anticipation of seeing great birds. And we did! Of note, among the 24 species seen, there were Great and Snowy Egrets putting in an appearance along with a Great Blue, a Green (did a fly-by and took off for Fremont) and Black-crowned Night Herons. Many, many conversing American Crows......too numerous to count, but we did anyway! Also many far and close up views of Red-winged Blackbirds, male and female. Lesser Goldfinches, Anna's Hummingbird, Black Phoebes, a lone Barn Swallow, and California Towhees spiced up the rest of the day. At the very end of the trail on the sandbar Black-necked Stilts were congregating with a whole mess (40) of Greater Yellowlegs. While Forster's and Caspian Terns quizzed us by flying by, making us polish up our identification skills. Turkey Vultures flew over looking for a tasty meal. It was a fairly warm day, but love that Bay Breeze!
